Suspension of Security Clearances and Evaluation of Government Contracts
President Trump directed the suspension of security clearances for Peter Koski and members, partners, and employees of Covington & Burling LLP who worked with former Special Counsel Jack Smith.
The rationale provided was a pending review of their potential involvement in the "weaponization of the judicial process."
The Attorney General and agency heads were directed to terminate government engagements with Covington & Burling LLP to the extent permitted by law.
The Director of the Office of Management and Budget was instructed to issue a memorandum to agencies for reviewing all government contracts with the firm, aligning funding decisions with the administration's priorities.
Investigating the National Security Threat of Copper Imports
President Trump ordered an investigation into the effects of copper imports on national security under Section 232 of the Trade Expansion Act.
The investigation, led by the Secretary of Commerce, will assess the impact of copper imports on various sectors, including defense, energy, and critical infrastructure. It will also consider domestic production capacity, foreign supply chain influence, market manipulation risks, and the potential need for tariffs or quotas.
The Secretary of Commerce will consult with other relevant agencies and submit a report to the President within 270 days with findings and recommendations.
This order aims to ensure a reliable and resilient domestic copper supply chain.
Healthcare Price Transparency
President Trump signed an executive order to promote healthcare price transparency, building on Executive Order 13877.
This order directs the Secretaries of the Treasury, Labor, and Health and Human Services to implement and enforce existing price transparency regulations fully. Within 90 days, they must require disclosure of actual prices, issue guidance for standardized pricing information, and update enforcement policies.
The stated aim is to empower patients with clear pricing information, fostering a more competitive, affordable, and higher-quality healthcare system.
Artificial Intelligence Action Plan
The public is invited to submit comments on a developing Artificial Intelligence Action Plan through March 15, 2025, in response to a Request for Information (RFI).
The plan, following a recent executive order on AI, aims to solidify America's leadership in AI technology innovation.
